Boss Focus: Attumen the Huntsman
Hello there my dear fellow robe-clad girls and gals.
I decided to ramble a bit about Karazhan. My lovely guild has Karazhan on farm and clears it weekly. Since i am growing more and more familiar with the instance i will try to give a complete rundown on healing in Karazhan as a holy priest.
I will focus on bosses first, but i will give some love to specific trashpulls, too.

Attumen the Huntsman
In a Nutshell
Attumen the Huntsman, and his steed, Midnight, form the first and entirely optional boss encounter in Karazhan. The fight is more or less a tank and spank with no elements of surprise.
As a well-geared healer, the fight is quite relaxing (a.k.a. boring) and should be no problem if your equipment is sufficient and coordination is somewhat solid.
Rundown
Basically this is a 3 phase encounter. First, you will only fight Midnight and should assign the offtank to this task. Midnight will dish out some damage, but there is no potential for spikes or the like. So healing should be very predictable and steady.
Once Midnight reaches 95% percent of it’s health points, phase 2 will start and Attumen will spawn next to it. The maintank should be ready to grab him and pull him away from the fight since he has a cleave.
Attumen will put out more or less the same damage, equal to his steed, however he can be disarmed to reduce his damage by quite a margin. All damage dealers will remain on his steed and pound away.
As soon as Midnight drops to 25%, phase 3 begins and Attumen will call out für his horse. It will charge to him, they both will despawn and re-appear as one Mob at 100% life.
The maintank should snap aggro the mounted Attumen and position himself so that he can’t be knocked back. All the raid should get into melee range (or max distance) to avoid any random charges and start doing damage again. Damage is not very heavy on the maintank, you can actually regenerate some mana in this last phase if you are well geared.
Watch out for
There are some transition phases in this fight where tank aggro may be low. You should try to avoid having Renew active and keep a Prayer of Mending ready as your first tank heal.
This happens first when Attumen spawns at 95% of Midnight’s health. Since he just spawned, the maintank must establish aggro first. Depending on how quick your maintank is, this may be an issue if you don’t pay attention.
The second time this happens, is when Midnight merges with Attumen at 25% health. This is an aggro reset. Just don’t Renew for the last few percent and keep your Prayer of Mending ready for your maintank.
Healing roles
There are 2 tanks, usually. So you should assign a healer to each tank to lessen some stress and allow them to focus. The raid should be taking no damage during the first 2 phases, so raid healing is not needed.
During phase 3 one healer is enough to keep the maintank happy. Put another healer on backup and let him heal charged raid members or dps the boss if there is nothing else to do.
Rewards
Attumen does not feature many drops for the healing priest. In fact only one item is tailored for our needs perfectly, the Gloves of Saintly Blessings. Everything else is not cloth or spell damage equipment.
